Book the trolley

Park a whole bookstore in your driveway

Trolley Parton is a vintage trolley turned real, fully stocked bookstore. And she'll come to your house, your wedding, your office, your block party, or wherever else you think could use a few hundred books.

We can pull up and run the shop for you, or we can get everything set up and leave you with the whole bookstore for a few hours.

Either way, your people get a bookstore in the driveway, which is not something most party invitations get to promise.

A bookstore, at your house, for an afternoon

This started because people kept saying some version of the same thing at pop-ups: "I wish I could just have this at my house."

Turns out, you can.

We bring Trolley Parton to your driveway, curb, cul-de-sac, or neighborhood gathering, get her open and ready, and your people spend the next few hours browsing books, finding their new favorite corner, and leaving with something they didn't know they were looking for.

It's great for birthdays, showers, book clubs, block parties, or simply getting a group of friends together without making another restaurant reservation.

Two ways to do it

The At-Home Book Party

$4502 hours · up to about 25 guests

We stay and run the bookstore while you enjoy your party.

  • We park, set up, and run the shop the whole time
  • Guests can browse and shop normally
  • We'll happily help anyone looking for a recommendation
  • Card and cash checkout with us
  • Snoots can come too, if requested (he will expect attention)

Best if you want the full Curbside Books experience without having to think about any of the logistics.

With either option, books and gifts are purchased separately by your guests unless you choose to cover them. You'll find a few ways to do that in the add-ons below.

If you're planning something for the whole neighborhood, the private rental also splits very nicely across a block.

Why bring a bookstore to your event?

Because it gives people something to actually do.

Your guests can browse a real bookstore inside a vintage trolley, discover something new, find gifts, puzzles, journals, and bookish odds and ends, and wander in and out throughout the event.

It works especially well for gatherings where you want people to have something to explore without turning the entire event into a scheduled activity.

And yes, people take a lot of photos.

How it works

Three steps and a lot of books.

1

Tell us what you're planning

Send over your date, location, approximate group size, and whatever else you already know.

Wild ideas and half-formed ideas are both welcome. If you don't know which package makes sense yet, that's completely fine.

2

We send you a real quote

We'll reply within 48 hours with availability, logistics, and an exact number.

A 50% deposit holds your date.

3

We roll in with the bookstore

We arrive early, get Trolley Parton parked and ready, and either run the shop or hand you your bookstore for the afternoon.

Your guests browse, discover, and usually leave with at least one more book than they planned on.

Senior photos and other very good backdrops

Photographers started asking about this before we had a price for it.

Deep green shelves, brass lamps, a Persian rug, and several hundred books. It photographs beautifully, and the late afternoon light through the windows does most of the work for you.

Seniors, engagements, families, headshots, brand shoots, and at least one extremely photogenic dog.

The trolley is yours for the session, so your photographer can move around, adjust the lamps, and use the inside and the outside.

Pick out a book you love to hold in a few frames. Take it home afterward if you want it.

$125 for 30 minutes at one of our scheduled stops, or $275 for an hour with the trolley brought to you. Photographers running several sessions in one day can book a half day for $650.

A bookstore at your wedding

Turns out a vintage trolley full of books makes an excellent wedding guest (she's quiet, photogenic, and has zero opinions about your seating chart).

Couples book Trolley Parton for welcome parties, receptions, showers, and day-after brunches around Boise and the Treasure Valley.

Guests can wander in between everything else happening, find a book to take home, and give your photographer a vintage trolley to work with.

We've got a separate page with the wedding-specific details, including curated shelves, guest favors, planner logistics, and a few ways couples have used the trolley.

Good to know

Trolley Parton is about 30 feet long and needs a relatively flat place to park

She's fully self-contained, so we don't need a power hookup

Heat and A/C keep the inside comfortable throughout the year

About 10 people fit comfortably inside at one time, with guests naturally flowing in and out

There are steps to enter, so unfortunately the trolley is not wheelchair accessible. We're always happy to bring books outside for anyone who can't come aboard

We're based in Boise and serve the Treasure Valley, with travel farther out available depending on the event

And yes, we're used to unusual requests

Questions people ask before booking

Wait, you'd really leave the trolley at my house?

We really would.

For a private trolley rental, we park her, get the lights and heat or A/C going, and walk you through the basics before we leave.

You'll sign a short rental agreement and we'll keep a card on file while Trolley Parton is with you.

She stays exactly where we park her. Nobody drives or moves the trolley during the rental.

Then we come back at the agreed time, close everything up, and head home.

How do guests pay if you're not there?

Everything on the shelves is priced, and guests can check out from the register inside the trolley.

We'll walk you through the process before we leave so there's nothing to figure out once your event starts.

Why does the private rental cost more?

You're getting Trolley Parton entirely to yourselves for an extra hour.

We handle delivery, setup, and pickup, then leave you with your own private bookstore for three hours.

If you'd rather have us stay and run everything, the hosted version is $450.

Will she fit in my driveway?

Trolley Parton is about 30 feet long and usually needs around 35 feet of fairly flat space, plus room for the doors to open safely.

A lot of driveways aren't quite big enough, and that's okay. The curb out front, a cul-de-sac, or a wide residential street often works better.

Send us the address or a photo of the spot and we'll tell you whether it works before you book.

Can we rent her for a block party?

Absolutely.

The trolley works especially well for neighborhood events because people can wander through throughout the afternoon.

If your event involves closing a public street, you'll need to check any city or HOA requirements first.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A 50% deposit holds the date and the remainder is due the day of your booking.

What if we need to cancel?

Cancel more than 7 days before your booking and your deposit is refunded in full.

Within 72 hours, the deposit is non-refundable because we've typically already turned down other bookings and started preparing for your event.

Anything between those two windows, we'll work with you. Rescheduling is usually the easiest option.

If we ever need to cancel because of unsafe weather or a trolley issue, you'll receive a full refund or can move your booking to another date.

How far in advance should I book?

For a weekday or Sunday, a few weeks is often enough.

Saturdays and dates from May through October tend to book earlier, so a month or two of notice is helpful when possible.

Wedding dates usually go first.

That said, always ask. Sometimes there's a gap.

Do you travel outside Boise?

Yes.

We regularly travel throughout Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Garden City, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna, and Star.

For anything farther out, we'll quote any travel fee before you book.

What happens if it rains?

We can operate in most weather.

The trolley itself stays dry and climate controlled, so ordinary rain usually isn't a problem.

High winds, ice, or unsafe driving conditions are the exceptions. If weather makes it unsafe for us to get there, we'll reschedule or refund your booking.

Can the trolley come indoors?

No.

She is a 30-foot vintage trolley, which limits her indoor options considerably.

Do you need power?

Nope.

Trolley Parton is fully self-contained, including the lights, heat, A/C, and register.

If shore power is available, we may use it, but it isn't required.

Can we photograph inside the trolley?

Yes. For a photoshoot the trolley is yours for the session, so you're welcome to move around, adjust the lamps, and shift a few things as needed.

It's cozy inside, which is lovely for one or two people and gets tight with a full group. Most photographers end up using the inside and the outside both.

There's no real changing space, so plan outfits accordingly.

What's the light like for photos?

There are windows down both sides and brass lamps throughout, so it reads warm and soft rather than bright.

Late afternoon is the best light we get. If you're shooting outside too, golden hour against a red trolley is hard to beat.

There are outlets inside if your photographer wants to plug something in.

Can we have drinks inside?

Yes! Guests are welcome to bring drinks aboard, we just ask everyone to browse with a little care (the books appreciate it).

Anything that gets damaged goes on the host's tab, so a drink table right outside works beautifully if you'd rather keep red wine a safe distance from several hundred books.

Can guests buy books during the event?

Absolutely.

That's part of the fun.
